| Title | MPS incurs large overhead on barrier hits |
| Status | open |
| Priority | optional |

| Description | Measuring the cost of a barrier hit on OS X [1] shows that the total time to handle a barrier hit and return control to the client averages 55 microseconds, but of this only about a third of the time is spent in the MPS. The overhead could thus potentially be reduced by choosing a larger quantum. |
