P4DTI issue job000329

TitleRisk of losing configuration when upgrading the P4DTI
Statusclosed

DescriptionWhen upgrading to a new version of the P4DTI it's easy to accidentally delete your configuration. You have to carefully follow the instructions, which we know doesn't always happen.
AnalysisHere are some possibile ways to solve this:
1. Write an installer (see job000046). Sledgehammer to crack a nut?
2. Don't distribute a config.py in the archive. Call it something else, e.g., "config-1.1.2.py". Ask people to copy it to config.py when they install.
3. Make the archive expand into a different directory for each version (e.g., C:\Program Files\p4dti-1.1.2). But this doesn't help if you re-install the same version.
